Dear Mark,

We want to talk with you about the meaning of numbers. The meaning of a billion. Not what a billion is, but what a billion could be.

What if a billion people could connect, help and change the lives of another billion? What if we change the world? We are not asking you or your company to do it alone. We are not asking you to donate more money to charity. We are just two of those billion Facebook users with a dream, some ideas and the courage to ask you… Mark, what if a billion?

What if you kindly ask that billion users to read a story about the other billion people living in slums around the world? What if that billion gives a damn about them and instead of hitting the Like button for crappy ads, they learn more about the issues of that billion and the different ways there are to connect with them and help them?

Maybe we can take it a little further Mark. Maybe we can ask them for 1 dollar in exchange of using your amazing social network for the rest of their lifes. What if just 10% of this billion users give not only a damn, but a dollar? You would have $100 million extra dollars. What if we find among that 10% social projects, working communities or some NGOs we could trust. Not the big players. Not charity but sharing Mark, because sharing is caring. Is to give a damn for the other billion. Sharing that extra $100 million dollars to (really) change the world. What if we give a meaning to the billion users you have?

Mark, we will tell you what If…

Thousands of families would have access to the basics, clean water, a proper house, education and daily healthy food. We could use that 10% of friendly users to make sure the money doesn’t get lost in the way and reaches the other billion. They will share the story of how the world changes as it happens, in your mighty News Feed, instead of crappy updates some brands and users make.

Maybe, just maybe, the current billion users will use and enjoy more your platform. Maybe the stocks will go up. Maybe more people will send you letters like this one just to say “Thank you Mark”.

Maybe we can ask for another dollar and give the other billion tools to connect. Internet access, a mobile or a tablet some of your friends make. And maybe Mark, just maybe, the other biliion will become proud Facebook users, saving you millions of dollars in PR and advertising, and let you have more time to raise a happy family and worry less about stocks or investors. 

And here comes the best part Mark. We will tell you what Facebook is and what Facebook can become. (Sorry but it is not Chairs ;)
